Curious to know how Indian people felt about Rushdi, I was talking to Aditi and Guhan about him. I had the impression that many Indians dislike him, for the things he's written in Midnight's Children about Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi.
Much to my surprise, they said that maybe just fifty percent of Indian people like Gandhi anyway, non-Hindus mostly, and people blame him for the separation of Pakistan and putting an end to all the good things that the British had borough them: Railway system, health system, educational system...
I always though Gandhi is an absolute hero... I tried to think of some similar examples in Iranian history: Mosaddeq...Amir Kabir...Their popularity is of no question in Iran. But I thought comparing complicated systems like socio-political systems, with my almost-equal-to-zero knowledge of history, is totally lame!!
